Work Introduction | Ei Okamoto × TV Drama Collaborative Illustration
In 2023, for Yomiuri TV’s prime-time drama Our Boring Love Theory (無聊的我們的戀愛論), artist Ei Okamoto (Okamoto Ei / ワカマツカオリ) was specially invited to create the visuals for the in-story manga Triangle Table (三角テーブル).
With his gentle and delicate style, Okamoto successfully infused the fictional manga characters with depth and emotion, making the manga feel as though it truly existed. Within the drama, his works appeared multiple times—in manga covers, exhibition posters, and scenes where characters held sketchbooks—becoming a key visual element that drove the storyline forward and resonated deeply with viewers’ understanding of the characters’ inner worlds.
This collaboration marked Okamoto’s first official foray into the world of television drama. The narrative quality, character appeal, and emotional expressiveness of his work were praised by both the director and the audience, laying a solid foundation for future development in character design, publishing, and film/television production.
